For protective tops over existing furniture, 1/4-inch is standard. For standalone glass tables, we recommend 3/8-inch to 1/2-inch tempered glass depending on the span.

Can glass shelves support heavy items?

Yes. Tempered glass shelves are very strong. We select the appropriate thickness and bracket spacing based on the expected load. A 3/8-inch tempered shelf on proper supports can hold substantial weight.
