Courtyard by Marriott

Courtyard by Marriott is a select-service hotel brand launched in 1983 and owned by Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR), which is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. Marriott opened the first Courtyard hotels in the Atlanta, Georgia, area, designing the brand for business travelers. The chain grew from three test sites in 1983 to more than 91 hotels by 1987, and it now sits in the Select tier of Marriott's portfolio.

As of June 30, 2026, Courtyard counted 1,371 hotels with 207,986 rooms, according to Marriott's second-quarter 2026 results. Of those, 1,084 hotels (150,081 rooms) are in the United States and Canada and 287 are international. Marriott says the brand operates in more than 55 countries and territories. In June 2026 it opened the 170-room Courtyard by Marriott Okinawa Resort on Kise Beach in Nago, the brand's first hotel in Okinawa, Japan. In January 2025 Marriott announced the 2,179-room Courtyard by Marriott Makkah Al Naseem in Saudi Arabia, which it said would become the brand's largest hotel in the world.

Courtyard rooms offer plush bedding, flexible workspaces, and free Wi-Fi, and hotels provide printers, lobby spaces for working or meeting, and a 24-hour gym. Guests can order food and drinks morning or night at an on-site restaurant or the Bistro, and Starbucks coffee is available at hotels in the U.S. and Canada. Guests earn and redeem points through Marriott Bonvoy, the company's loyalty program, which had more than 295 million members at the end of June 2026.

Courtyard's parent company traces its roots to May 1927, when J. Willard and Alice Sheets Marriott opened an A&W root beer stand in Washington, D.C. Led by President and CEO Anthony Capuano, Marriott International had 10,082 properties in 148 countries and territories as of June 30, 2026. In Los Angeles, the brand's hotels include Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles LAX/Century Blvd near Los Angeles International Airport and Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles L.A.
