Originally incorporated in 2017 as a holding company for the Fatburger brand, FAT Brands grew rapidly through an aggressive acquisition strategy, closing nearly $1 billion in acquisitions in 2021 alone and surpassing 100 new restaurant openings in a single year. The company's growth strategy includes pairing complementary portfolio concepts together, including co-branded and tri-branded restaurant locations. FAT Brands also operates a 40,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Atlanta, Georgia, specializing in producing fresh cookie and pretzel dough for its brands.

The company's in-house support teams work across all brands, providing operations, construction, purchasing, architecture and design, training, logistics, and marketing support to help franchisees achieve their goals. In January 2026, FAT Brands filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in an effort to restructure its debt and support continued growth of its brands going forward.
