Aluminum storefront is the workhorse of commercial entry systems, used at retail, restaurants, banks, medical, and office buildings. We install storefront on both new construction and tenant improvement scopes across California and Arizona, sizing the system to the building energy budget, the desired glass aesthetic, and the operating door hardware spec.
Storefront installations divide into two main contexts that affect detail and budget.
In new construction, storefront is engineered as part of the building envelope from the start. The framing is coordinated with the structural slab edge, weatherproofing is integrated with the wall assembly, and glass selection happens during pre construction with the architect and the GC. Lead time is part of the project schedule, and the install crew lands on site after the slab is complete and the wall framing is dried in.
In tenant improvement, storefront is being added to or modified within an existing space. Common scopes include new ground floor retail bays, restaurant entry replacement, bank teller line storefront, and medical office front entries. The detail challenges are different: matching existing floor and ceiling conditions, working around active HVAC, and coordinating with the landlord on facade integrity. Lead time is often compressed, and we field measure rather than work off the original architectural drawings.
We install storefront with insulated low e glass for thermal performance, laminated security glass where the retail program calls for forced entry resistance, and tempered glazing at all safety glazing locations per IBC chapter 24 (California) and IRC chapter 3 (Arizona). Operating door hardware ranges from standard pull doors with closers to ADA compliant low energy automatic operators, which we install through our Automatic Doors scope.
